I decided to change auto box fluid despite LR stating it is sealed for life! What a difference it has made gear changes are much smoother! The car feels much better to drive!

Response:
Despite what Land Rover say automatic gearboxes do need to have the fluid changed regularly - we reckon 60,000 - 80,000 miles depending on useage.
Preventive maintenance at 92600 miles. 01 June 2021 | D
My 09G had no problem but decided to change the ATF as a preventive measure. The old oil was dark but transparent, However, the lubricity of the new oil was way too much I could not handle the fill insert with my rubber gloves on. Normally, a torque convertor-based gearbox has around 30% speed difference in low idle speed (non locked up conditions) , but when I checked after ATF change,(using VCDS) the slip was only 5-10 rpm difference in 650 rpm idle. in RPMs above idle, there was no slip at all (on no-load conditions). The car was driven to Peak district from London and back , and I can tell that the shifting is quick and noticeable.
The whole trip was 1010 km with (25+35 liters) The overall efficiency is around 16.83 km/l. Last summer I did Land's end from London, but figures were around 14 km/l. both tests after fresh engine oil change 0W30 and filters.
I guess the ATF will pay off half of its cost during this summer tours, plus increase the secondhand value of the car.

Response:
Although many vehicle manufacturers claim extended fluid change intervals on automatic gearboxes it really does pay to change earlier. I did my Range Rover at 65,000 miles (using Ravenol 8HP) and the fluid that came out looked like black treacle. Smoothness of gear change and fuel economy were vastly improved after the change.
Re-energised my Automatic Gearbox 03 July 2020 | Zabir
Brilliant Stuff!!!!!!, I push my 16v vvti engine hard, only want the best and Ravenol is the only choice. Gearbox is so much smoother when shifting, immediate power and response. Will order again when I do another change. Big thank you.
