Brands Hatch
Testing Round Up
A very wet start to the weekend on Friday! The team made the decision to miss the first session. With the track still wet, but less rain the drivers headed out. Pace looked good topping the second session. The same followed in the third session. The track this time however starting to dry. The team stayed on wet tyres and again topped the session by a little over 3 and a half tenths. For the fourth and final session of the day with the track now dry we used this time to bed in some new tyres and brakes. This meant Harri only did two flying laps. Nevertheless, Harri and Rhys were achieved 2nd, just 0.119 from the fastest time.
Saturday – Qualifying and Race 1
After a strong pace in testing, the team looked forward to getting qualifying under way. With a longer qualifying session for this weekend and a chance of rain, the team made the decision to try a different strategy to previous weekends. Harri started the session and managed to set the fastest time of the session! Harri managed to accomplish pole position! It was the team's first pole of the season and by just under 7 tenths of a second. Later into the day Race 1 started, with the team starting from pole. In the front row of the Clio grid, Harri held the lead off the start and their sister car got up into second. The team pushed on together. Just before the pit window opened a car went off in front of Harri, part of the barrier flew into the track, luckily though Harri was able to avoid losing his pace. With the pit window opening and the end of the safety car being deployed all 3 Dragon Sport cars dived for the pits. The team left the pits leading now with Rhys in the car. As Rhys is quite new to the race scene he didn’t quite have the pace to hold onto the lead. The car of Harry & Alex took the lead and pushed on extending and holding the lead all the way to the end. The race for Rhys and Harri was on for 2nd place! Their rivals fought and fought with them until the end. With some contact at the rear of their car Rhys managed to secure 3rd position. The incident was taken to the steward’s office after the race leading in a penalty being given to the other team's car. As a result of the incident, Rhys held onto 2nd position! With this the team were able to gain points on the championship lead.
Sunday – Race 2
With the team's damaged car all fixed after race 1, Rhys started the second race. More action from all the Clio’s which was a great race to watch. Rhys did what he could but unfortunately picked up some damage to the front end. As a result of the contact, Rhys dropped to 4th place. A safety car came out as the pit window opened. Just like Race 1, the 3 Dragon Sport cars in to pit with the safety car deployed. Harri jumped into the car and caught the pack. The fight was on for the remainder of the race. The team were within touching distance of the win! The cars in front battled, and Harri made his way through and managed to secure 2nd place at the flag, a fantastic result with a double podium finish!
